Aiza Ahmed Collab T-shirt

This handcrafted shirt delves into the notion of growing up as a Pakistani woman in the East and the West and how one is often forced to play a balancing act between the cultures. Female empowerment, defying societal norms, elevating the female symbol and the intersection between the traditional and unconventional are also among the themes explored in the piece.
With this in mind, Aiza Ahmed draws a female figure in traditional clothing smoking, something that is typically frowned upon in eastern cultures particularly for women, just to highlight the dichotomy. The design on the back of the shirt exudes a magical aura, portraying a queen in a royal throne, surrounded by lavishness, flora and fauna. Ahmed reflects upon the dreams young girls often have growing up, longing for recognition, respect and acceptance. The aesthetic is an amalgamation of figuration, minimalism and abstraction, treading the fine line between simplicity and complexity.
